NBA Defensive Player of the NBA The NBA Defensive Player Award of the Year (NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award) is given in the NBA since 1983. Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, David Robinson and Kevin Garnett are the only players to win the award and the MVP of the season over their careers Jordan and Olajuwon won both awards in the same season.
